Please help Zoe!
Zoe is an adult female Shih Tzu - absolutely the most beautiful little darling - and by the the testimony of everyone who has interacted with her, is also the sweetest girl anyone could hope for.

Zoe came from a shelter in OK, where she was found as a nameless little stray. She was so terrified in the shelter that a kind shelter staff person brought her home to care for her until a rescue could be found to help her. This shelter staff person reported that Zoe was so relieved to be in a quiet, comfortable environment that she sighed in happiness as she curled up on the sofa next to her caregiver that first evening.

NBSTR stepped in and soon this little gal was on her way to her new NBSTR foster home in Minnesota with a brand new name (Zoe). However, when she arrived, it was evident that she had something pretty serious going on with her eye. Her concerned foster mom brought Zoe to her vet, and it was determined that the eye must be removed, as it was swollen, infected, damaged beyond repair, and very painful. Zoe made it successfully through the surgery and returned home two days later as sweet as ever.

However, seemingly overnight, Zoe's remaining eye developed a white overlay and Zoe gave every appearance of having lost her sight completely. She was frightened and confused and could not find her way around. She even had her first accident in the house because she did not know how to get to the door to ask to go outside.

Zoe was again brought to her foster mom's veterinarian, who immediately referred her to a specialist in the Twin Cities, Dr. Olivero at the Animal Eye Clinic. Dr. Olivero has helped NBSTR with several of other foster dogs experiencing serious eye problems in the past.

After a consult with Dr. Olivero, it was determined that surgery was immediately necessary in order to save Zoe's remaining eye and allow her to regain/keep her vision. This surgery involves removing the "popped" lens, thereby relieving the swelling, pressure, and blindness that had so quickly developed. Zoe will have her vision back, and although she will now be near-sighted, we are so happy to know she will be able to see once again.

The total cost of surgery including all necessary bloodwork and anesthesisa will come to approximately $1500.00. We will provide an update on exact cost when we have the actual charges.
